2019 Chaplain's Academy

The 2017 Chaplain's Academy will be held from Monday, April 24th through April 26th. The Academy will offer the 3-day Basic track for those who are new to chaplaincy, those who have very little chaplaincy training, and those who just need a refresher. There will also be three break-out sessions specifically for Liaison Officers and Chaplain Program Coodinators.

This year, the Academy will also offer a 2-day Advanced Class: Assisting Individuals in Crisis and Peer Support (ICISF Class).  This is a Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) class designed specifically for those who respond to critical incidents.   Most crisis interventions are typically done by individuals, one-on-one.  The course objectives are:

  • learn fundamental principles of crisis intervention;

  • signs & symptoms of stress after trauma;

  • demonstrate crisis communication techniques;

  • and identify risk factors for suicide.

As always, we will have a group of outstanding, well-qualified instructors who will bring you the most up-to-date information and training in chaplaincy. You can also expect great fellowship and networking opportunities as well as plenty of delicious food.

This training and curriculum is approved and accepted by the International Conference of Police Chaplains (ICPC) as meeting their requirements for Basic and Liaison credentialing (membership in ICPC and additional CEUs are required).  Training certificates documenting contact hours will be presented to each participant only for the classes they attended.  Therefore, participants are strongly encouraged to attend all three days of the academy if they intend to seek ICPC credentials.
